Ahafo Gold Mine Gold

Newmont Ghana Gold Ltd · Ahafo Region, Ghana · generated 2026-06-14 · Resilicity — Dr. Minka Aduse-Poku

A desktop draft of the mine's EIA/ESG conformance — Ghana EPA (Act 490 / LI 1652) mapped against GISTM, IRMA, ICMM, IFC PS, ISSB S2, GRI 14 and TNFD, screened on Ghana-resolution spatial data — with an honest gap register of everything that still needs field data and a registered practitioner's sign-off.

Executive summary

This Snapshot screens Ahafo Gold Mine (Newmont Ghana Gold Ltd, Gold) against Ghanaian regulatory requirements and international responsible-mining frameworks. It consolidates land, water, tailings/flood, air and closure screening into one audit-ready draft and a transparent gap register.

● Screening data: LIVE — SafeGround + FloodGuard across 9 concession points, queried 2026-06-14. Findings marked ○ seed are illustrative (no live engine for that aspect).

Readiness = share of framework requirements with desktop/GIS evidence already in place; the remainder need primary data, consultation or sign-off (see the gap register, §6). It is a drafting-progress measure, not a compliance score.

18 requirements need primary data or professional sign-off and are flagged, not assumed conformant. This is decision-support for a registered EIA practitioner — not a substitute for an EIS, field surveys, stakeholder consultation or audit.

5 · Reclamation & positive-legacy outline

Gold sites carry large, long-dated closure liabilities: pit lakes, TSF capping and revegetation, waste-rock landform stabilisation. Resilicity's differentiator is a science-based progressive revegetation plan — native species selection, substrate amelioration and phytostabilisation of metal-bearing substrates — grounded in Aduse-Poku phytoremediation methodology. This is foregrounded as the reclamation & positive-legacy section.

Indicative native-species palette (phytostabilisation & restoration)

SpeciesRole in the reclamation plan
Chrysopogon zizanioides (vetiver)Phytostabilisation of metal-bearing substrates; TSF-cap & slope erosion control
Terminalia superba (Ofram)Fast native pioneer for forest-canopy re-establishment
Senna siameaHardy nurse / windbreak on waste-rock landforms
Leucaena leucocephalaLeguminous nurse; soil-nitrogen amelioration (manage invasiveness)
Ceiba pentandraEmergent native tree; biodiversity & seed-dispersal anchor

Indicative air-quality co-benefit of the restored vegetation

1,703kg NO₂ / yr
8,515kg PM10 / yr
~341cars-worth of NOₓ / yr

Order-of-magnitude screening estimate over ~150 ha of restored vegetation (~600 ha leaf area) using the Aduse-Poku deposition-velocity method (ScienceDirect 2024; Springer Urban Ecosystems 2025). Assumptions: Vd(NO₂)=0.0015 m/s, Vd(PM10)=0.002 m/s, LAI=4.0, effective annual fraction=0.5, ambient NO₂=12.0 µg/m³, PM10=45.0 µg/m³ over 150 ha restored. Calibrate with site leaf-area index, species-specific Vd and measured ambient concentrations before reporting.
